Family

…The Uphill Battle…

March 16, 2017
“When you’re sorting yourself out, family are not often the ones you can turn to. They represent the place of departure and not the place of arrival.” ― Witi Ihimaera, Nights In The Gardens Of Spain

…It has been a long climb…

…Rocks, opinions, self doubt, the expectation of others…

…All made her stumble…

…She doesn’t know if she will ever make it…

…whenever she gets close…a family visit occurs…

…She keeps her opinions close to herself for fear of judgement…

…After all, what does she know…

…She quells the instinct to be who she is for it never is good enough…

…Others work harder, love more, are less selfish…

…She is only a mother, a daughter, a wife…

…No sense in attempting to show herself in any other light…

…She accommodates by being what they think…

…But this time, there is no inner confusion…

…She knows who she is…

…She stops climbing…

…She stops looking for recognition…

…She steps out of the way of the rolling boulders…

…She does not tumble down…

…She stands her ground and waits…

…The top is close…

The pull of family relationships, the effort to stay true to herself, the commitment to move to the top despite boulders … I enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.
